The Institute of Cardiology and Sports Medicine deals with the many facets of sports medicine in its research, teaching and applications.
The Institute is divided into two sections:
- Section I - Preventative and Rehabilitative Sports and Performance Medicine
- Section II - Molecular and Cellular Sports Medicine
A wide range of state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures and methods are used. The clear aim is to develop sports medicine tasks and projects by means of a variety of joint ventures, both scientifically and in the area of teaching and transfer of practice. The necessity of sports medicine is growing in importance, especially in performance and performance-oriented sport and increasingly also in the prevention and treatment of various diseases caused by certain lifestyles.
The spectrum of experiments ranges from the observation of individual cells in vitro to animal experiments and studies of humans under physical stress. Performance sport is not the only focus, recreational and health sports also receive attention. The overarching theme of the Section of Molecular and Cellular Sports Medicine is the identification of regulation paths and cellular/extracellular mechanisms of functional and structural adaptation to mechanical, metabolic and hormonal stresses under various physiological and pathophysiological conditions.
The heart and skeletal musculature as well as blood vessels and the blood are the main physical structures that receive focus. The Section of Preventative and Rehabilitative Sports and Performance Medicine is dedicated specifically to the prevention and treatment of various diseases caused by certain lifestyles, so-called diseases of civilisation. You can find dates and information on sports medical studies in our secretariat.
