    Associations are permanent associations of corporations or individuals, usually based on voluntary membership and fixed regulations (statutes, articles of association), which pursue the goal of articulating their interests in a unified manner to the outside world as well as coordinating and bundling the individual interests of the members that may diverge.

    The workshop will focus on the internal democracy of sports associations. While sports clubs as "schools of democracy" have already been examined in more detail by science, sports associations have hardly been examined with regard to their democratic rules and practices.

    The workshop aims to examine current structures and processes of change in sports associations more closely in the interplay between science and practice. In addition to ongoing external challenges of sport (success of commercial providers such as fitness studios, decline in membership, decline in volunteers, financial restrictions, condition and availability of sports facilities, changing time structures, all-day schools), sports associations also have to cope with internal challenges. The workshop will deal with these issues, including formal changes in associations such as statutes and elections, but also with internal communication and participation structures. The individual topics are usually examined in "mirror presentations" from both an academic and association-practical perspective.
