Guest lecture at University Cologne

“The creation of the European Council”

In the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence ‘HOMER’, Prof Dr Wilfried Loth from the Historical Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen will hold a lecture on the creation of the European Council on November 3rd, 2015. The event will take place in hall H113 of the “IBW”-building of the University of Cologne (Herbert-Lewin-Straße 2, 50931 Köln) at 5:45pm.

Wilfried Loth will examine – from a historian’s perspective – the foundation of the European Council. In particular, he will discuss the past conceptions regarding this key institution and compare them to the actualities. The event will be organised in co-operation with the European Union Köln and will be held in German.

‘HOMER - From History to Memory Culture: Narratives of the European Council Summits’ is a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence which is co-funded by the European Commission. The research-based teaching project seeks to identify European narratives focusing on the three history-making summits of The Hague (1969), Maastricht (1991) and Lisbon (2007). The project is co-ordinated by the German Sport University Cologne and implemented in co-operation with Maastricht University and the University of Cologne.
