Walter Tokarski erhält NRW-Sportplakette

The former rector of the German Sport University Cologne and professor of the Institute for European Sport Development and Leisure Studies Walter Tokarski has been awarded the sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

On July 5, 2018, Andrea Milz, NRW State Secretary for Sport and Volunteering, presented the plaque on behalf of NRW's Prime Minister Armin Laschet at a ceremony in the city hall Ratingen. The NRW sports badge is awarded annually to personalities from NRW for outstanding voluntary commitment in sport. Together with Walter Schneeloch, President of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Sports Association, the State Secretary paid tribute to the achievements of 20 citizens.

stands for committed cooperation in numerous sports committees. As early as 1992, for example, he initiated an extensive model project together with the Central Rhine Football Association on the subject of older people's sport. Prof. Dr. Walter Tokarksi also contributed his extensive expertise to the Judo Association, the Stadtsportbünden Cologne and Bonn as well as the Landessportbund NRW. Prof. Dr. Walter Tokarski was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cologne Marathon for nine years, advised the Board of Trustees of the NRW Sports Foundation for 15 years and supported the Rhine-Ruhr Olympic bid committee from 2001 to 2003 in enumerating part of his work for the benefit of sport.
For his commitment, Prof. Dr. Walter Tokarski received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2015.
