Workshop Palestine

The Institute of European Sport Development & Leisure Studies held a fruitful workshop on Friday the 5th of May at the university headed by Dr. Karen Petry, Mr. Werner Schleicher (Sportamt) , PhD students, MA students from the International Sport Development & Politics program and four representatives from Al Diyar organization in Bethlehem, Palestine.

The workshop focused on sports aspects in Palestine, a representative from Diyar organization, Jackline Jazrawi presented the topic of Women Sports in Palestine and challenges along with her three colleagues, noting that each one of them is an ex national player and current coach who reflected their experiences as females living in Palestine. Thereafter, Tamara Awartani from Ramallah, Palestine, a current PhD student at the institute, and director of Palestine: Sports for Life (PS4L) organization, presented the different sports for development programs that are implemented in Palestine by PS4L.

Interesting discussions were raised and conducted by Dr. Karen Petry, who thereafter concluded the workshop with a presentation about the university, its foundation and its different institutes.

Everyone benefited from the shared experiences, and thanked each other for such a great opportunity, noting that the city of Cologne represented by Mr. Schleicher and Lea Wippermann (MA student) organized for the exchange.
