Launch of a new library management system & online catalogue

Dear users of ZBSport,

We are pleased to announce that as part of the state initiative "Digitale Hochschule NRW" and thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Science, the ZBSport, together with 41 other university libraries, has switched to the modern cloud-based system "Alma" from the company Ex Libris transfers The library management system "Alma" is the central management software for all processes in a modern academic library and includes:

  • The reservation, lending, renewal and return of media
  • The management of user data
  • Various fee and reminder procedures for users and suppliers
  • The acquisition of new media – both electronic and physical
  • The cataloging and verification of library holdings and other systems
  • The statistical evaluation of the library processes

What will change specifically for you?

On September 4, 2023, not only Alma will be launched, but also the online catalog "Primo", which is also from the Ex Libris company. Primo offers the following improvements compared to the previous online catalogue:

  • A modern and user-friendly design that adapts to the screen size of the end device
  • New filter functions that enable a precise search: e.g. for all media in the library, articles, journals, theses and media in the library's textbook collection
  • Improved export functions for your research results and individual watch lists
  • Deep link support: Allows you to link directly to specific content in the catalog and share those links
  • There is no nightly shutdown due to system work.

    Other changes are:

    • Even more consistently than before, notifications and receipts from the library are sent by e-mail. Loan and return receipts are also no longer available in paper form
    • Your previous PIN for the online catalog and self-checkout will be reset to your date of birth (DDMMYYYY). To protect your privacy, we recommend changing this PIN in your account as soon as possible.

    In the coming weeks and months we will continue to work on improving our processes and further optimizing the Primo online catalog for you. The launch of Alma and Primo marks the start of an era of modern library services, and many exciting innovations are yet to come.
