2020’s Commission Week of the IOC
During the 2020 Lausanne Winter Youth Olympic Games, held from 9th to 22nd January, the IOC scheduled this year’s meetings of its 21 Commissions. Thus, this meant that the Olympic Capital was crowded with young athletes, coaches, sport officials, volunteers, visitors and commission members. As in the previous years, Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong currently holds the position of member of the Olympic Education Commission. The representation of him in the commission is vital to stress the relevance of the M.A. Olympic Studies for Olympic Education and the growing academic reputation of the Olympic Studies Centre of the German Sport University Cologne. As the commission meetings coincided with the Youth Olympic Games, numerous former and current participants of the M.A. Olympic Studies were in Lausanne in different functions, including officials of NOCs and IFs, staff members of the IOC and the organizing team of the Youth Olympic Games. All commissions met in the Olympic House. This new headquarters of the IOC welcomes all visitors and officials with a statue of Coubertin in the entrance hall.
