Since its founding in 1975, the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC) has been dedicated to researching and promoting Olympism, Olympic education, and the legacy of Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, ensuring his ideas and work continue to inspire.

The CIPC was honored with an award for its efforts by IOC President Thomas Bach. Stephan Wassong, Head of the Institute of Sport History at the German Sport University Cologne and President of the CIPC since 2018, accepted the award on behalf of the Committee. He was also personally recognized for his individual contributions.

Among the CIPC members are many alumni of the M.A. Olympic Studies. During his speech, Prof. Wassong highlighted the crucial role played by graduates of the part-time programme in organizing the event, serving as both organizers and chairs of working groups.
