Daniel Quanz on Coubertin´s philosophical foundations
OSC´s Daniel Quanz was invited to the "I CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL DE CIENCIAS DEL DEPORTE, OLIMPISMO Y MOVIMIENTO OLÍMPICO - RETOS DEL MOVIMIENTO OLIMPICO Y DEL DEPORTE POST-COVID 19" (1st International Congress on Sports, Olympism and the Olympic Movement - Challenges for the Olympic Movement and Sports after Covid 19", an Online Congress which was organised by the Guatemalan Olympic Comittee, the Panamerican University and the Guatemalan National Sports Council (Conader).
Titled "Investigación de una filosofía de paz. Fundamentos filosóficos de la figura de Coubertin" he presented an investigation on the philosophical foundations of Pierre de Coubertin´s Olympism, focusing on how Coubertin used ideas of the Olympic truce present in the work of Hugo Grotius, who influenced the 19th century peace movement to which Coubertin was closely connected. He concluded with recommendations on how to apply Coubertin´s thoughts to the challenges of a world post Covid-19, strengthening sport´s commitment to peace and basic human rights.
