International Olympic Academy

Since 2012, Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong has been invited to give regular lectures at the International Olympic Academy (IOA). This has meant that he has been able to continue the long-standing tradition of professors from the German Sport University Cologne (GSU) lecturing at the IOA. Therewith, Prof. Wassong joins the GSU’s C. Diem, L. Diem, W. Körbs, K. Wilke, W. Hollmann, D.R. Quanz and W. Decker in belonging to the select circle of lecturers of the IOA since its foundation and development in the 1960s. The topic of this year’s sessions of the Young Participants (June 2017) and Postgraduates (September 2017) dealt with the multifaceted teaching and research field of Good Governance and the Olympic Movement. Prof. Wassong lectured in both sessions on this topic and analyzed, amongst others, the current doping crisis in top-level sport. The Young Participants Session also saw Franziska Heinrichsmeier and Wiebke Arndt, two students from the GSU, participate on recommendation of the Olympic Studies Centre. For the Postgraduate Session, this was Annett Chojnacki-Bennemann.

Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong lehrt seit 2012 regelmäßig an der Internationalen Olympischen Akademie (IOA) und setzt damit die Tradition fort, das Hochschullehrer der DSHS wie C. Diem, L. Diem, W. Körbs, K. Wilke, W. Hollmann, D.R. Quanz und W. Decker seit der Gründung und dem Aufbau der IOA in 1960er Jahren zum engsten Kreis des Lehrkörpers gehören. Das Thema der diesjährigen Sessionen der Young Participants (Juni 2017) und Postgraduates (September 2017) beschäftigte sich mit dem facettenreichen Lehr- und ForschungsfeldGood Governance and the Olympic Movement. Prof. Wassong trug in beiden Sessionen über diese Thematik vor und ging dabei vor allem auf die derzeitige Dopingkrise im Spitzensport ein. Franziska Heinrichsmeier und Wiebke Arndt sind zwei Studentinnen der DSHS, die auf Empfehlung des Olympischen Studienzentrums für dieYoung Participant Session ausgewählt worden sind. Für diePostgraduate Session war dies Annett Chojnacki-Bennemann.
