IOC's Olympic Education Commission: Renewed appointment of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong

Appointments to the commissions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are decided annually by the IOC President. For 2019, Dr. Bach once again nominated prof. Wassong for the Olympic Education Commission. An important basis for this decision constitutes that of the commission project Database on Olympic Studies, which was established by Prof. Wassong in collaboration with Prof. Thierry Zintz (Université catholique de Louvain). Presently, it appears likely that this project will be continued.

Already on March 8, 2018, a meeting between IOC President Bach and Prof. Wassong took place in Lausanne. Central themes in this one-hour discussion included the research and teaching priorities of the Center for Olympic Studies at the German Sport University Cologne. The IOC President showed particular interest in the published research results of Prof. Wassong on the foundation and development of the IOC Athletes' Commission. In addition to these, Prof. Wassong reported on the development of the M.A. Olympic Studies and the upcoming intake to be commenced in 2019. President Bach received this news very positively, expressing his admiration for the programme alongside his willingness to consider enhancing the on-going IOC support it receives.
