Japan Olympic Museum: Keynote lectures by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong
For the occasion of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the Japan Olympic Museum (JOM) has opened a special exhibition on the life and works of Baron Pierre de Coubertin. The museum itself is new, with its inauguration taking place in September 2019. The co-academic supervision of the Coubertin exhibition fell under the responsibility of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (CIPC), which has been chaired by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan since 2018. The CIPC (www.coubertin.org) is officially accredited by the IOC. In the weeks after the opening of the Coubertin exhibition, the JOM organized various different academic events, which included the symposium on Coubertin. By invitation of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong delivered therein two keynote lectures on a modern reading of Coubertin`s thoughts on the Olympic Movement. The lectures on the topics Pierre de Coubertin and the Athlete at the Heart of the Olympic Movement and A Contemporary Application of Pierre de Coubertin`s Ideas for the Olympic Movement will be published in an academic journal in English and Japanese.
