Media and Commercialisation of the Olympic Movement: 9th Intake`s fifth module in Barcelona, Spain
The 9th intake of the M.A. Olympic Studies is in Barcelona, Spain between 10th and 15th of March, participating in the module “Media and Commercialisation of the Olympic Movement”. The module is co-organized by our partner institution, the Olympic Studies Centre Barcelona. Special thanks to the institute's management, including Centre Director Dr. Emilio Fernandez Pena and Deputy Director Iliana Ferrer, for the organization of the module and their insightful lectures.
The participants had the opportunity to learn from industry experts, including Mario Reis (who was himself participating in the 4th intake of the M.A. Olympic Studies) Telecommunication Director of the Olympic Broadcasting Services, as well as Jose Ramon Diez, former Director of the Public Spanish Television and TV Producer of 8 Opening Ceremonies of the Games.
Throughout the module, participants gained valuable knowledge about the Olympic media system, TV production techniques, the narratives of the Games, the Olympic brand, partnerships related to the Games, and gender representation in the media. Additionally, the group visited the Olympic Museum and the iconic Barcelona 1992 Olympic Ring site.
