Exchange semester at GSU

The idea of the Buddy System is to match international exchange students coming to the German Sport University with local students from the German Sport University.

The aim is to help new exchange students to get settled in a new environment, acquaint them with the local culture, and have an unforgettable time. German buddies support their exchange students, and actively engage with them throughout the entire semester. Sometimes all it needs is a sincere “how are you?”, an offer to help, lending a sleeping bag for a trip, or a spontaneous invitation to have dinner together. Little actions can make a big difference for exchange students who are away from home and out of their comfort zone.

Every semester many events are organized for international students and German Buddies (e.g. go-karting, international dinner, team building, crossfit, etc.) which aim to add even more fun and unique experiences to the semester. A tentative list of the current semester can be found on the right.

What do German Buddies do?

• Contact their exchange student before the start of the semester
• See their exchange student regularly
• Offer help and support proactively
• Participate in events
• Introduce their exchange student to the German and local culture
• Possibly invite their exchange student to their home, organize their own little events
