Cologne Workshop on Doping Analysis
The Cologne Workshop on Doping Analysis has been held annually at the German Sport University for 43 years. This is the world's largest specialist congress for doping laboratories accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which also includes the Institute of Biochemistry at the Sport University, which organizes this workshop annually.
This year's workshop took place on the campus of the German Sport University from February 16-20 with 190 participants from 29 countries. The program included 35 lectures and 93 poster presentations. The focus of the congress is always on the latest findings and methods in doping analysis, including new techniques for detecting doping substances and current challenges in anti-doping work. The workshop (since 1996 Manfred Donike Workshop) is considered a flagship event of the German Sport University Cologne and underlines the leading role of the Institute of Biochemistry in anti-doping research. The 44th workshop will take place again at the Sport University in spring 2026.
The poster prize of the 43rd Cologne Workshop on Doping Analysis (sponsored by Thermo Scientific) went to a research group from the WADA-accredited laboratory in Beijing for the development of a detection method for a new EPO mimetic. The prize for the best presentation at the 43rd Cologne Workshop on Doping Analysis (Manfred Donike Award, sponsored by Thermo Scientific) went to a research group from the WADA-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City for the evaluation of various methods for the indirect detection of doping with testosterone esters.
The documentation of the past workshops can be found on the website of the Institute for Biochemistry. The documents from this year will be posted soon.
