New President´s Office complete
The President´s Office of the German Sport University Cologne is complete. After her election by the university election assembly in January 2020, the new university provost Marion Steffen took office today, Tuesday, at the only Sport University in Germany.
The 44-year-old lawyer studied law and political science in Münster and Montreal and completed the MBA Science Management in Osnabrück. She brings a wealth of university experience to Cologne-Müngersdorf: At the University of Bielefeld, she was involved in the implementation of the Bologna Process as a legal advisor, among other things; at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen, she was responsible for studies, teaching and research as a department head and worked as a representative of the Provost for four years. After that, her path led to Cologne: From 2013 onwards, Marion Steffen was head of the administration of the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT Cologne) as Provost and represented the universities of art and music, among other things in the working group on digitisation of the university provosts in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Marion Steffens' professional career has also convinced the University Council. "I am very pleased that we were able to fill the position of chancellor with Mrs Steffen," said University Council Chairman Lothar Feuser. "With her qualifications and great experience, she is a reinforcement for the President´s Office. I wish her a good and successful time at the German Sport University Cologne.
Marion Steffen says she loves living in Cologne. From one of the largest music universities in Europe with about 1,650 students, she is now moving to the largest European sports university with 6,000 students. "I am very much looking forward to the great atmosphere on the campus of the German Sport University and I am excited about the first encounters with students and employees", said the new Provost of the German Sport University. "Due to corona, there are no easy times ahead of us, this will also determine my everyday life and will be a great challenge. I trust in good teamwork - not only, but especially in this crisis!"
