Prof. Wassong appointed founding member of the International Olympic Academy's Scientific Committee

The International Olympic Academy (IOA), based near antique Olympia in Greece, appointed Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong, Head of the Institute of Sport History and Director of the Olympic Studies Centre Cologne, a founding member of its newly established Scientific Committee. Its seven members are to scientifically support the continuous development of the IOA´s programmes for Olympic Education and their implementation.

The International Olympic Academy is an internationally renowned institution for education and research on Olympism and the Olympic Movement since its foundation in 1961. Its installations have been renovated with the support of the International Olympic Committee during recent years. Now, a restructuring of the academic programme is to follow. The appointment of Prof. Wassong continues decades of successful cooperation between the German Sports University Cologne and the IOA, through which the Olympic Studies Centre Cologne was also able to repeatedly give students of the GSU the opportunity to visit the IOA and partake in its academic and educational programmes.
