Deutschlandstipendium
Who can apply?
Students with very good academic achievements and first-year students with above-average achievements can apply. Students who have a child or are caring for relatives, have a disability/illness or belong to a sports squad, please submit separate proof of this. Support is provided for first-year students and students in higher semesters. Both first and second degree programmes in a Bachelor's, Master's or teacher training programme are eligible. Prerequisite is first enrolment at the DSHS. Social or voluntary commitment is a prerequisite for receiving a "Deutschlandstipendium". Other skills and special personal achievements, such as the successful overcoming of obstacles in one's own educational biography, are given special consideration. Furthermore, the German Sport University expressly welcomes applications from women and students with special qualifications (e.g. migration background, educational advancement) in terms of equal opportunities.
How high is the funding?
The amount of funding is 300 € per month. Half of this is paid by a company, a foundation or an individual. The other half is paid by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
How long is the funding period?
Funding is covered over a period of two semesters. However, the funding is not granted for longer than the standard period of study (exception: cases of particular hardship).
How many stipends will be awarded in the coming semester?
The exact number awarded each year depends directly on how many sponsors the university can recruit. Experience over the past few years has shown that approximately 30-50 are awarded per winter semester.
What proof of performance do I have to provide?
In addition to the application form, you will need further documents/certificates, which must be compiled individually. Detailed information can be found under Application.
Can I apply as a high-school graduate or doctoral student?
The application and receipt of the "Deutschlandstipendium" is linked to the student's matriculation. Applicants can also apply for the scholarship. After the selection by the jury, it is checked whether matriculation has taken place. Doctoral students cannot apply for the "Deutschlandstipendium".
Can I apply as a foreign student?
International students who have obtained their Abitur (A-Levels) abroad and are enrolled at the German Sport University can apply. It is possible to submit application documents in English.
I am (additionally) studying at another university. Can I apply?
Receipt of the "Deutschlandstipendium" is linked to enrolment at the German Sport University Cologne. The decisive factor is the first enrolment at the German Sport University. Students who are primarily enrolled at another university (e.g. University of Cologne) can find out about it at this university.
Internship or semester abroad. Can I apply?
Yes, an application is possible. A distinction must be made between mandatory internships in Germany and abroad and other internships. Compulsory domestic internships are integrated into the studies and do not prevent payment of the funding. The situation is similar with internships abroad if they are provided for in the respective study regulations; they can be regarded as "subject-related stays abroad". If the recipient is on leave of absence for other internships, it must be examined on a case-by-case basis whether the funding can be granted.
Transition from Bachelor's to Master's degree. Can I apply?
I will complete my Bachelor studies at the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln after the summer semester 2023 and start my Master studies at the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln in the winter semester 2023/2024. Can I apply for the "Deutschlandstipendium"?
Yes, you can apply. Please enter the expected end of studies in the application form. If you are unable to obtain a place on the Master's programme at the German Sport University, you are obliged to report this to the respective Office. Funding cannot be granted beyond the end of your studies.
