The Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies provides the framework for the activities in research and teaching of the German Sport University Cologne with regards to scientific studies of sport politics and leisure time. 

The Jean Monnet Chair, located at the Institute, located is dedicated to European and international aspects of sport politics. Numerous contacts place the Institute’s activities in an international context, which is reflected through its European research projects and teaching programs. The topics of “Sports and Development Cooperation” and “Leisure Time and Tourism Research” are of special interest to the Institute. The Institute is also home to the “Sport Politics Forum” of the German Sport University Cologne.
