The central field of activity of the Institute of Professional Sport Education and Sport Qualifications of the German Sport University Cologne, which was founded in 2012, focuses on research-driven theory and practice transfer in different kinds of sport.

The science-based teaching and application-oriented research of selected individual and team sports address both technical and tactical fields of action as well as knowledge of different sport science disciplines that control and determine performance.In the area of overlap between sport science knowledge and applied knowledge of curricular and extracurricular sport, students acquire the mediation skills that are required in the potential professional fields of performance, leisure and school sport. Scientific projects are initiated and carried out in close cooperation with associations, sport clubs and schools as well as with sport and economic institutions. Trainer licences can also be acquired.
