General information
Arrival and departure
Please plan your arrival at the German Sport University Cologne (GSU) for Sunday, 20th of August, 2023. On the day of arrival, please note the following:
- On this day, you can register in the lobby of the GSU main building starting at 04.00 pm.
- From the lobby, guided GSU campus tours will start at 06.00 pm in small groups to familiarise you with the most important locations in advance.
- At 07.00 pm, an informal Get-together will begin also in the GSU lobby.
- You can check in at the GSU guest house before your registration as well as afterwards or even after the informal Get-together.
The core of the official programme will consist of lectures and workshops, but it will also include information sessions on PhD studies & research at GSU, as well as sports & cultural events. It will start on Monday, 21st of August, and last until Saturday, 26th of August, 2023. Please remember that participation in the entire programme of the summer school is obligatory. Therefore, please plan your departure for Sunday, 27th of August, 2023.
Lectures
The first centrepiece of the scientific programme are the lectures, which will take place from Mon, 21st of Aug, to Sat, 26th of Aug, 2023, from 9.00 to 10.00 am and from 02.00 to 03.00 pm. These survey and instructive lectures held by experienced researchers from different disciplines within sports science will sum up the current state of the art on certain fields of interdisciplinary research. You will acquire compact and concise knowledge on research methods for interdisciplinary approaches happening within sports science. The broad range of research topics from different disciplines will provide you with a multi-faceted picture of the interdisciplinary character of sports science at GSU.
Workshops
The second centrepiece is formed by practical workshops, which will also take place from Mon, 21st of Aug, to Sat, 26th of Aug, 2023, from 10.15 am to 12.45 pm and from 03.15 to 05.45 pm. They will offer you the opportunity to enhance the theoretical foundations from the lectures and to apply your knowledge in practical trainings. Here, you will get the possibility to use the GSU’s excellent range of laboratories & training sites, to experience the challenges and chances of a research methods by learning how to use them. And, you will discuss the benefits, the limits and the future potential of different interdisciplinary approaches in sports science – with peers and experienced researchers from our university.
Information sessions on PhD & research at GSU
Additionally, it is important to us to familiarise you with the broad variety of opportunities for scientific research cooperation offered by our university to researchers from Germany and abroad. Use these sessions to network with potential partners from our university with regard to joint research projects, studies and publications. Get comprehensive information about possible ways to take up PhD studies at the GSU.
Sports & cultural events
Finally, the summer school programme is rounded off by cultural events and sporting activities in the evenings.
