M.Sc. Sport Management
As per the admission regulations for all Master’s programmes, the following admission requirements apply:
- Completed degree (no less than six semesters) in a related field of study (Subject-specific requirements regarding the relevancy are listed in annex A of the admission regulations)
- Proof of ability (above-average final grade of either 2.5 or higher in the German system or B according to ECTS)
- Personal qualification (proven by Curriculum Vitae (CV) and letter of motivation) and professional qualification.
All lectures and courses in this Master’s programme will be in English. As a result, all students are required to demonstrate certified proficiency in the English language. Proof of language proficiency may be demonstrated through any of the following language test certificates:
- TOEFL iBT (≥ 95 points)
- IELTS Academic (≥ 7 points)
- Cambridge Certificate (CAE) at C1 level following the European Reference Framework for Languages (GER)
There are exceptions to this requirement. Native English speakers or graduates who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from an English-language programme at a university within the European Union or in a country where English is the official language are exempted.
Additionally, we advise applicants to display the following interests, skills and abilities:
- A strong interest in business-related subjects within the field of sports
- A passion for research
- The ability to work at a high analytical level
- A fundamental understanding of mathematics and statistics
- The ability to work well in a team as well as independently
- An affinity for business practice and analysis
- The ability to work in an international context
Please note that, unlike other degree programmes, the sport qualification test is not mandatory for admission to any Master’s programme at the German Sport University Cologne.

For capacity reasons, it is not possible to carry out a personalised relevance assessment of undergraduate studies before admission.
Annex A of the Master’s admission regulations (available for download) specifies the study requirements that must be fulfilled. Prospective students can use this to self-assess their completed study contents and determine whether to apply.
