IOC`s Olympic Education Commission: Final Report
The annual meeting of all of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) commissions took place from 11.01. - 20.01.2019 in Lausanne, Switzerland. At the meeting of the Olympic Education Commission, Prof. Wassong together with Prof. Zintz (Université Catholique de Louvain) presented the final report on the development of the ongoing study project Database on Olympic Studies: Degree programs, Courses, Seminars & Workshops. The recommendations made on further targeted promotion of Olympic education and training programs will be examined in a future working group of the Commission. The study aimed to identify the number and profile of study units and programs with an Olympic thematic orientation and their geographical distribution.
The target group was initially only sports institutes and Olympic study centres, which are already included in a database of the Olympic study centre of the IOC. While there are no separate study programs for the Olympic Movement at the bachelor’s level, there are three programmes on the master’s level, which differ in their thematic orientation and target groups. These include the MEMOS program (Université catholique de Louvain), the Master of the International Olympic Academy (University of Peloponnese) and the M.A. Olympic Studies offered by the Centre for Olympic Studies of the German Sport University Cologne.
